READ: Esther 2:8-15

  1. So it came to pass, when the king’s commandment and his decree was heard, and when many maidens were gathered together unto Shushan the palace, to the custody of Hegai, that Esther was brought also unto the king’s house, to the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women.
  2. And the maiden pleased him, and she obtained kindness of him; and he speedily gave her her things for purification, with such things as belonged to her, and seven maidens, which were meet to be given her, out of the king’s house: and he preferred her and her maids unto the best place of the house of the women.
  3. Esther had not shewed her people nor her kindred: for Mordecai had charged her that she should not shew it.
  4. And Mordecai walked every day before the court of the women’s house, to know how Esther did, and what should become of her.
  5. Now when every maid’s turn was come to go in to king Ahasuerus, after that she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women, (for so were the days of their purifications accomplished, to wit, six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet odours, and with other things for the purifying of the women;)
  6. Then thus came every maiden unto the king; whatsoever she desired was given her to go with her out of the house of the women unto the king’s house.
  7. In the evening she went, and on the morrow she returned into the second house of the women, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king’s chamberlain, which kept the concubines: she came in unto the king no more, except the king delighted in her, and that she were called by name.
  8. Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalms 22-24, Acts 20:1-38

MESSAGE:

Do you know that you can be a posh Christian? Being a Christian does not mean you should dress shabbily, look unkempt and drab. Your gender does not matter in this case. My child, pay more attention to your appearance. Knowing you’re a child of the King of kings should make you represent your Father properly by your dressing. Princes and princesses don’t dress shabbily; their appearance speaks of royalty and honour.

The events that took place before Esther was crowned queen in Esther 2:1-23 , tells us that you can be simple, classy, spiritual and smart. While other ladies were flamboyant, Esther on the advice of Hegai was different and she won the crown. So, your dressing doesn’t have to be expensive or flamboyant with the intention of showing-off, rather, it should be well-ironed and neatly combined to glorify God. Someone said dress the way you want to bead dressed. As a girl, wearing skin-revealing clothes doesn’t portray you as God’s child; even if your parents buy them for you, don’t wear them. Also, as a boy, don’t go about showing your chest or boxers, button up, cover up! You don’t have to wear what is in vogue before you look good.

KEY POINT

Spirituality has no correlation with shabbiness.

HYMN: Let Others See Jesus In You

  1. While passing through this world of sin,
    And others your life shall view,
    Be clean and pure without, within,
    Let others see Jesus in you.

CHORUS
Let others see Jesus in you,
Let others see Jesus in you;
Keep telling the story,
be faithful and true,
Let others see Jesus in you.

  1. Your life’s a book before
    their eyes,
    They’re reading it through
    and through;
    Say, does it point them to the
    skies,
    Do others see Jesus in you?
  2. What joy ’twill be at set of sun,
    In mansions beyond the blue,
    To find some souls
    that you have won;
    Let others see Jesus in you.
  3. Then live for Christ both
    day and night,
    Be faithful, be brave, and true,
    And lead the lost to life and light;
    Let others see Jesus in you.
